A tough but hugely positive morning for Cornforth United as we tested ourselves against Division 9 side Washington FC Wildcats.

After a strong recent run of form, today was always going to be a great opportunity to see how we could compete against a team playing two divisions higher. Despite the narrow 4-3 defeat, the players can be incredibly proud of the performance they put in.

In tough, hot conditions, the work rate, determination and attitude from every single player was brilliant to see. They never stopped working for each other, kept battling right until the final whistle and showed exactly how much this group continues to grow.

The scoreline was a close one, and there were plenty of positives for the coaches to take from the game. Most importantly, the players showed that they are willing to challenge themselves, compete against stronger opposition and keep pushing forward.

Coaches and parents couldn't be prouder of every single one of them today.

The result might not have gone our way today, but the progress of this team certainly continues.
